Group of Three: East and West Africa Medal 1887-1900 - bar - Gambia; Queen's South Africa Medal 1899 - six bars - Belmont; Modder River; Paarderberg; Driefontein; Johannesburg; Diamond Hill; Coronation Medal (Metropolitan Police) 1902. R.W.Compton Corpl.R.M., H.M.S. Satellite on first medal, 4872 Pte R.W.Compton R.M., H.M.S. Monarch on second, P.C. R.Compton W.Div on third. First two medals impressed, last medal engraved. Very fine.

Cpl Compton served aboard H.M.S. `Satellite' during the expedition up the Gambia River against the rebellious Chief Fodeh Silah. 164 clasps were awarded to `Satellite' for Gambia 1894. He then served on H.M.S. `Monarch' during the Boer War and is confirmed on the roll for his QSA and six bars, 52 Navy personnel and marines were entitled to six clasp medals for this ship. On leaving the marines it would appear that he saw service with the Metropolitan Police as a Constable with `W' Div, Clapham. Confirmed on roll. Photocopy of pages for entitlement.
