Group of Four: Crimea Medal 1854-56 - bar - Sebastopol; Turkish Crimea Medal 1955-56 (French issue); Canada General Service Medal 1866-70 - bar - Fenian Raid 1866; Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (VR) narrow suspender, years on edge varity. J.Strawbridge H.M.S. Prometheos on first medal, A.B./L.S./J.Strawbridge Boatn H.M.Coast Guard 23 years on last medal. First and third medals engraved, second medal unnamed and last medal impressed. Very fine.
John Strawbridge boatman. Born Tantbury, Devon 15Mar1837 and entered the service as a Boy 1st Class aboard H.M.S.'Prometheus' 26Dec1854, where he received advancement to `Ord' two years later, served aboard H.M.S.'Victor Emmanuel' (1858-62) being made an A.B. Jun1861, and subsequently was aboard H.M.S.'Aurora' (1863-67) where he advanced to Leading Seaman on 01Jul1866. Joined the Coast Guard Service as Boatman in Nov1870, but received no further promotion before receiving his awards of P.M.&G. on 12Apr1877. Unusually but not uniquely, his L.S.G.C. award was indented with the name of his parent ship for the Coast Guard Service in Southampton Water, H.M.S.'Hector'. With 14 photocopy pages of research.
