Group of Four: China War Medal 1841-42 - two bars- China 1842; Taku Forts 1860; Crimea Medal 1854-56; Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (VR) wide suspender; Turkish Crimea Medal (Sardinia issue). Charles Plumley H.M.S.Melville on first medal, Charles Plumley on second, C.Plumley Qr Mr H.M.S. Urgent on third. First medal impressed, second and third medals engraved and last medal unnamed. Very fine.

Charles Plumley. Born Newport, Hants 8 Oct 1819. First entered the Service as a Boy 1st Class aboard H.M.S. `Melville' on 12 Oct 1837, and advanced to Ordinary Seaman in July 1838. Drafted again to `Melville' in Aug 1841 and made an Able Seaman one month later, subsequently served commissions aboard H.M.S.'Belvidera' (1841-46), `Apollo' (1846-48) and `Frolic' (1848-51) achieving Petty Officer status as a Bosun's Mate in Jun1848 and Captain of the After Guard in Apr1850. Completed his time serving aboard `Fury' (1852-55) as a Quarter Master, `Perseverance' (1855-57) and finally `Urgent' (1857-61), receiving his pension, medal and gratuity for 21 yrs servitude on 21Nov1862 but only the notation of `W' on his papers. Confirmed on roll. With 11 photocopy pages of research.
