Group of Four: Military Cross (GVR); 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. Capt H.W.F. Mitchell, Mouquet Farm 1916 on first medal, Captain H.W.F. Mitchell 2/A.G.H. A.I.F. on second medal, Major H.W.F. Mitchell A.I.F. on third and fourth medals. First medal engraved, second to fourth medals impressed. Very fine.

C.G.: No.169 04Oct1917 'This officer has been R.M.O. of 51st Bn since 1st April 1916 and his constant devotion to duty, cheerful manner and personal influence over the men has assisted materially in maintaining the Bn at it fullest fighting value. During the operations carried out by the Bn at Moquet Farm near Pozieres, period 14/17th August 1916, Captain Mitchell attended to the numerous wounded often at great personal risks, dressing and attending them in the open under heavy shellfire for 48 hours without rest. At Moquet Farm on 3rd September 1916 he established a dressing post in a convenient place well forward and again carried out his duties under heavy shell fire for 36 hours continuously. During the whole period Captain Mitchell has been attached to the Bn his devotion to duty and unremitting attention to all matters concerning the health, welfare and care of the unit have been marked with conspicuous ability and merit'. Together with copy of the commendation and original telegram from Lord Chamberlain to attend Buckingham Palace.
