Italy, Lucania, Velia, (c.400-365 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.646 grams), Period IV, workshop of T, obv. head of Athena to left, wearing crested Athenian helmet with griffin, rev. lion walking to right, **UELHTWN* in exergue, owl above lion with open wings, (cf.S.454, Williams 248 [these dies, Obv.147, rev.194]). Toned, interesting obverse flaw on helmet noted by Williams, otherwise very fine, good metal and a scarce mint.
