Documents, A series of important early Australian letters, documents, records, etc. including the following: 1. Letter to Mrs Jane James, North Geelong from London as ship letter April 1851, letter of credit of twenty pounds into account, water damaged, another of 1848 from John James of Sydney to Mrs. James of Hobart. 2. Hand drawn plan of Rothschild estate, Melbourne?, Hoddle St./Government road/Roseneath Street area. 3. George Town plan at York Cove, other maps of shore area hand drawn. (Near Port Dalrymple, Van Dieman's Land) 4.The Brig 'Daphne's' Disbursements logs (2) from a) Dec. 1811-1814, and another b) June 1, 1814 to June 1815 and other sundry accounts of Capt. James. Also a list of stores for 'Daphne' as listed 28/6/1815 and other accounts of wages, c.1812. Also a valuation and appraisal of brig in 1814. This brig was purchased by Captain Joseph James in Cape Town to bring much needed stores to the emerging Colony of NSW. (see lot 3325 Sale 46). 5. Letter to brother John from Capt. Joseph James (c. 1815). 6. Receipt letter from Master Attendants Office Sydney 11th Oct. 1826 to Capt. James of the Cutter Speedwell (Pilot and harbour dues). 7. Debit slip to Govt. for Ship, 'Wellington'. c.1818. 8. Two letters from Launceston 1820 from Thomas Scott to Mr. Joseph James, George Town. 9. Memorandum of Agreement 1859 from Hobart to Mrs James for purchase of property by Thom. Rose. 10. Mr. J. James account Feb, 5, 1813. 11. Promissary notes to Jos. James for two pounds 1822, from Arch. Forrest, another for eleven pounds March 1822, another c.1827, for one hundred and fifteen pounds of gold, one shilling and eight pence halfpenny and others etc. 12. Various letters of receipts for bread 1814 from Thos Rose to Capt. James and others accounts c.1815, one from G. Blaxcell . 13. Badly waterdamaged Log of c.1825-6 ofthe cutter 'Speedwell' 14. Surveyor General approval to purchase land 1853. A most interesting selection of early Australian documents housed in folder, separating each document. Mostly in fair condition, a few in poor condition all very rare. (lot)
