Macedon, Kingdom of, Antigonos Doson, (229-221 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.002 grams), obv. Head of Poseidon to right with a wreath made from a marine plant, dotted border, rev. **BASILEWS ANTIGINOU* along side of prow of war galley on which sits Apollo to left naked, holding out a bow, monogram below, (S.6789, SNG Alpha Bank 1046-7, SNG Ash. 3266). Attractive dark patina, nearly extremely fine and very rare in this condition.
Ex Spink Numismatic Circular April 2002 No.GK0525 with their ticket and illustrated on the inside front cover in colour. The issue records Antigonos' and Antiochos Hierax victory over Ptolemy III's fleet off the island of Andros Caria in 227 B.C.
