Description

China, Warring States period, openwork jade pendant in the form of a carving of two dragond around a bi-disc, the underside decorated with 'C' scrolls in a brown and green stone jade 8.9 cm long. Very fine, rare.

An illustration of another example of this type of jade carving may be found in Hansford (1969 p.185, E 13), see photo copy supplied. For two other illustrations of this type of jade carving see Li Fenggong (1935, p.34, [fig. reduced 20%] and p.100), Those jades are considered to be of the Warring states period, (Na (1982, p.227, No.2058 and p.228, No.2060). This jade is almost identical in design to the second of those jades.
