AFC LG 1 January 1942: 'This officer has shown outstanding merit and devotion to duty during his period of command of 22 Squadron. He has always shown an outstandingly good example to pilots and air observers in his unit in undertaking flying duties in all conditions. He has been entirely responsible for building up his unit, which at the time of his take-over was in a poor state of readiness for war, into a squadron that was capable of undertaking any function whithin its role, in a highly successful manner. He has shown keeness of a very high order and this again is reflected in the satisfactory state of the unit. His long service as an officer has been constantly good and in accordance with best traditions of the service.'
