The Queensland National Bank Limited, five pounds, issued at Brisbane, dated 1st January 1877 (date fully printed), proof specimen note on heavy paper, Not numbered only as No.C.., without watermark, with imprint in centre of bottom, 'Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Engravers & C, London', with vignette in framed oval wreath, the head of Queen Victoria and with 5 in all corners and sides in circular and oval framed tablets, FIVE POUNDS at top and bottom, all within rectangular ornate border, the back plain. (Vort-Ronald, p.204-207 on bank, and similar note but one pound, illustrated as Fig.212, cf.Nicholson example of ten pounds Sale 49B [lot 1600]). Corner cut at angle, repairs to edge and central area, otherwise nearly extremely fine and extremely rare.

A proposed new design from Bradbury Wilkinson & Co to replace the issues from Perkins Bacon & Co. No issued notes are known in private hands from this 1877 issue type and this note is believed to be the only proof of this denomination in private hands.
