SICILY, Syracuse, Republic (214-212 B.C.), silver twelve litrai, (10.14 grams), obv. head of Athena to left wearing crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with griffin, rev. Artemis standing left in short chiton with quiver on shoulder and discharging an arrow from her bow, at her feet a hound running left, to right SVRAKOSIWN, to left X A over hound, (cf.S.997, SNG ANS 1040). Extremely fine and rare.
