MACEDON, Kingdom of Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.60 grams), Sidon mint, issued 324-323 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right, in crested Corinthian helmet, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand and ship's mast, in field to left SI, palm with fillets and date, to right ALEXANDPOV, (cf.S.6702, Price 3490, BMC 3490a-b, Muller 1410, SNG Cop. 635). With original mint bloom, struck from rusted obverse die, otherwise extremely fine and rare.
