Sicily, Syracuse, (c.485-479 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.036 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **SUPA KO S I [O N]* around to right, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, diadem of beads, four dolphins around, (cf.S.913, Boehringer 90 same dies [obverse 44/reverse 59 dies], SNG Munich 930 [Pl. 27 same dies], Naville 5, lot 1028 [same dies]). Well centred, worn on head of reverse, otherwise very fine/nearly very fine, lightly polished and a very rare die combination.
Boehringer notes only three specimens from these dies. A similar example from the same dies was in our Sale 69 (lot 1732).
