Australian Joint Stock Bank, Brisbane, one pound, dated 1 January 1884, (date fully printed), numbered B 68783, signed for manager and countersigned both by uncertain signatures, imprint of 'Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. Engravers &c London'(Vort-Ronald, Type two (a), comments on bank and type p.46-51, similar issued note, illustrated Fig. 44 [p.47]). Many folds and creases, with rust spots, otherwise fine and very rare.
The bank was active from 1853-1910, when it changed its name and again in 1931 it merged with the Bank of New South Wales. Only a few pound notes (at least four, two in this sale), exist from this bank for this type, with most notes of this bank being of five pounds denomination from the New England Hoard of 1971 (12 notes).
