Description
Queen Victoria, first type, 1855, with filletted head left by James Wyon. Two rim nicks at 8 and 9 o'clock on the obverse, a few scrape marks otherwise nearly very fine and extremely rare thus.
The obverse legend and the date re-entered in the die when being punched giving slight doubling, also full stop after the date slightly higher. This is the only such example the cataloguer has noticed with this peculiarity. It is now likely a second working die was employed to replace the one this coin was struck from. This coin has not previously been on the market.
