Parthia, Kingdom of, Phraates II, (138-127 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.898 grams), Seleucia mint, obv. short bearded bust to right in diadem, filleted border, rev. bearded male deity enthroned to left, holding Nike in right hand, cornucopiae in left, to right, **[B]ASILEWS MEGALOU* to left **AR SAKOU NIKHFOROU*, two monograms in exergue, (S.7347 [£2000], Sellwood 17.1 [£3500], BMC - [see p.16], Shore -). Obverse porosity, otherwise very fine/good very fine and extremely rare.
Known mostly from the hoard found several years ago that contained about 25 examples. A similar example in our sale 69 realised $2300 hammer.
