Lot 2706

Sale 70 · Important Australian, British & World Coins, Tokens, Medals & Banknotes

Description

Fiji, another as previous except a coloured printer's proof, maroon and black on white (R&C -). Taken off mounted leaf, resulting in tear (20mm) through lower edge in the middle, otherwise extremely fine and possibly unique.

This and the previous five lots were removed from an old printing scrapbook album in Auckland. The album contained samples of engraving done in Edingbourgh in 1840's, then Melbourne in 1850's and Auckland in 1860's and later. We sold an issued one pound in Sale 7 (March 1982), lot 551. The bank operated from 1873-1876 when it was absorbed by the Bank of New Zealand.
