Henry II, (1154-1189), silver penny, cross and crosslets (Tealby) coinage, bust A1, issued 1158-1161, Salisbury mint, obverse, hENRI REX ANGL, rev. +[DA]NIEL:ON:SALE:, (Daniel of Salisbury), (S.1337, N.952/1, BMC 698, Pl.iii,6 [same dies]). Toned, round, nearly very fine or better and excessively rare mint.
Ex William J. Conte Collection and previously from the F. Elmore Jones Glendining's Sale, 12th April 1983 (lot 1176 Å“260 and illustrated) and previously from the Dr.L.A. Lawrence Collection March 15, 1951 (lot 385 illustrated). This example as fine as the example illustrated in the British Museum catalogue.
