Description

Syria, Seleucis & Pieria, Antiochia ad Orontem (Antioch), Nero (A.D. 54-68), silver tetradrachm, (14.200 grams), obv. laureate head to left of Nero, **NERWN* KAICAP [CEBACTOC, rev. ETOYC **DIR* (year 114 of Caesarian Era = A.D. 65-6), eagle standing to left, on club, wings spread, palm branch in front (cf.S.618, Prieur 91, RPC 4191). Off centred obverse, partial legends, otherwise nearly fine.

Antioch at this time was striking in good silver with a high standard of portraiture. This example provides a good portrait of Nero.
