Sicily, Syracuse, (480-475 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.428 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **SUPA KOS*I ON around to right, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, hair waved and turned up behind under diadem of beads, four dolphins around, (cf.S.913, cf.Boehringer 233-4 [obv.-/rev.-, only examples from these dies from Randazzo Hoard], Randazzo Hoard No.395 [This Coin]). Attractive even gold and grey tone, nearly extremely fine and a rare combination of dies.
Ex Randazzo Hoard (1980), published as ANS Num. Studies No.18. Boehringer note no specimens from these dies, but four were present in the Randazzo Hoard. Probably only these four examples survive from these dies today.
