Description
Aboriginal King plate or gorget in brass (circa 1840) (141x70mm) inscribed to 'Charley / King of Cumble' engraved with emu on left, kangaroo on right, the aboriginal king wearing his king plate and a pair of breeches, holding a boomerang and spear (cf similar style in Troy pp108/9 for Sawyer, King of Wickham-Hill in the Edmund O. Milne Collection). Very fine and very rare, especially depicting the recipient.
Cumble was a property in the Liverpool plains district. In 1848 it was owned by M. Joseph.
