Cigarette case, gold 9 crt. cigarette case (110 grams) signed Nuffield (Viscount Nuffield) and engraved G.A.L. 1934. Very fine.
Ex G.A. (Peter) Lloyd AO OBE Collection. This case was a gift to the vendor's father George A. Lloyd C.B.E. by the late Viscount Nuffield G.B.E., for whom he worked when he was Sir William Morris (the manufacturer of Morris and Austin cars etc.). The vendor's father was the founding Managing Director of Nuffield Australia Pty. Ltd at Victoria park, Zetland, Sydney and later continued as the Managing Director of British Motor Corporation at a time when it employed 8000 people. His son G.A. (Peter) Lloyd founded Peter Lloyd Industries which initially involved the distribution of Riley, Wolsely and Mercedes Benz in NSW and Queensland. Later it included Morris and MG cars. He took the General Motors Holden franchise and merged with the car dealership Stack & Co in William Street, Sydney in the pre war/post war period selling Morris and other cars. The two companies sold 10,000 new and 30,000 used cars and had a payroll of 2000 people. He was also the founding director several other companies including Helicopters Pty. Ltd with 89 helicopters, this he eventually sold, with his interests going to his co-director.
