Syria, Seleucis & Pieria, Antioch ad Orentem, Otho (A.D. 69), silver tetradrachm, (13.92 grams), obv. laureate head to r., rev. ETOYC A (year 1), Eagle standing to l., on laurel branch, wings spread, holding wreath in beak, palm branch before (BMC. 214, S.686). Weak in places, portrait good fine, otherwise fine and rare.
Greek Imperial coinage struck during the three-month reign of Marcus Salvius Otho was confined to the great Eastern minting centres of Antioch and Alexandria. Antioch was unique by striking in good silver with a high standard of portraiture.
