Syria, Kingdom of, Alexander I, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, issued after October 146, (16.092 grams), Antioch mint, obv. diademed head of Alexander I to right with fillet border, rev. Zeus seated to left on throne, holding wreath bearing Nike in hand and other hand holding a sceptre, **BASILEWS ALE XANDROU* to right, AP monogram and **QEOPATOROS EUERGETOU* to left, extreme left **F*, under throne **IXR*, (S.7031, cf.ACNAC Houghton 178, cf.Newell SMA 162 [p.50]). Cleaned, light surface porosity, otherwise very fine, rare variant, apparently unpublished.
