The annual festival of the Deutsche Schule took place at the Maid and Magpie, Stepney on October 23, 1865. The competition was for school boys to fire an arrow using a cross bow at a large wooden eagle tied to a pole. The winner who shot out the centre was Carl Rasch who was declared king for the day.
