GROUP OF FIVE: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 2 with trace of ghost dates), - four clasps - Cape Colony, Rhodesia, Orange Free State, Transvaal; King's South Africa Medal 1902, - two clasps - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902; Natal Rebellion Medal 1906, - clasp - 1906; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 1349 Sq-S.Major. W.Clarke, N.S.W.Bushmen. on first medal, Lieut: W.Clarke. N.S.W.I.B. on second medal, St.Sgt. W.Clarke, Transvaal Mtd, Rifles on third medal, Captain W.Clarke A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Very fine - good very fine.

Walter Clarke, soldier aged 45, born Wellington, Somerset, England; previous service, P.A.S.L.I.Vols, Regular Army, NSW Inst Staff, Transvaal Vol Staff, Canadian Militia, Provost Staff 4MD, 6th Imp Bushmen, 3rd Imp Bushmen, Transvaal Mtd Rifles (Vols); AIF: Enl.25Mar1916; Emb.09Jun1916; appointment terminated 16Oct1919. Military service includes Frontier service in Eastern Soudan on Egyptian Army Staff, Tokar Field Force 1892-93; Operations in Rhodesia 17-15 May 1900; Transvaal west of Pretoria July - Nov 1900 including action at Eland River; in Transvaal, Orange River Colony and Cape Colony between Nov 1900 and June 1901; served as Lieutenant 3rd NSW Imperial Bushmen and took part in the operations in the Transvaal and Orange River Colony June 1901 - May 1902; served in the Zulu Rebellion 1906 with Transvaal Mounted Rifles in Zululand and Natal; WWI during the campaign at Ypres (Zonnebeke) Capt W Clarke was commander of B Coy 43rd Bn.
