Estimate $1,500
Bid at live.noble.com.au

NEW SOUTH WALES, fifteen pence or dump, 1813 (cf Mira die E/3) (4.8 grams). Appears struck on a cast blank that is underweight by 20%. The crown exactly conforms with Mira die E as do the letter and figure punches. The die sinker (was it Henshall?) has accidentally left out the 'L' in WALES so that it reads WAES. On the reverse th word PENCE is out of alignment possibly as a result of double entering. Surface dents, edge milling mostly clear otherwise fine, extremely rare and unpublished. $ Ex P.J. O'Rourke Collection. This crude example adds weight to the argument that the E/3 and C/4 dumps are contemporary counterfeits rather than crude experimental pieces.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
