AUGUSTUS, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), silver denarius, Lyons mint, issued c.9-8 B.C. (3.78 grams), obv. laureate head of Augustus to right, around AVGVSTVS DIVI F, rev. C CAES above and AVGVS F in exergue, C. Caesar galloping to right, with right hand holding reins, left hand a sword and shield, behing Aquila, between two standards, (S.478, RIC 199, C.40, BMC 500). Bankers marks on obverse, otherwise good very fine and very scarce.

Ex. B.A. Seaby, London, March 1989. Caius was the grandson of Augustus but he adopted him as his son and heir together with his brother Lucius.
