ROMAN REPUBLIC, anonymous issue, cast AE Aes Grave quadrans, (240-225 B.C.), (62.07 grams), obv. head of Hercules to left, wearing lion's skin, on raised disc, three pellets behind, rev. prow of galley to right, three dots below, (S.46, Cr.36/4, Thurlow-Vecchi 'Italian Cast Coinage' No.54 p.37, Pl.35). Red and black patination, similar to the illustrated Thurlow-Vecchi example, irregular edge, nearly very fine and rare.
