BOLIVIA, Philip V, (1700-1746), cob four reales, Potosi mint, 1736 (dated twice), assayer E, (12.5 grams), obv. arms of Leon and Castille, 736 below, rev. two crowned pillars, 4 above, 736 below, P and E, (KM.30a). Dark tone, usual flan, good weight and surfaces, very fine and a scarce date, with certificate of wreck source.

From the wreck of the 'Nossa Senhora Da Luz'. The ship was sunk on July 2, 1752 during a storm off Montevideo, Uruguay. The vessel was at anchor at the entrance of the Port of Montevideo in route to Spain, carrying valuables and Treasure from the Viceroyalty of Peru, which were transshipped from Buenos Aires. On July 2, 1752, it was caught by a heavy sudden storm, locally known as 'Pampero'. salvage attempts at that time were successful but an unregistered contraband remained in the wreck until salvaged in 1992. The coin remained in the possession of the salvager from the time of its recovery until it was sold at Public Auction November 6, 1997 by the Auction house of Castells & Castells, catalogue 84, Montevideo in Uruguay. This coin was lot 168 (No.2/7) from that sale.
