SICILY, Gela, (c.490/85-480/75 B.C.), silver didrachm, (7.184 grams), obv. naked horseman wearing crested helmet, galloping to right, brandishing a spear, held in right hand, rev. forepart of man headed bull (the river god Gelas), to right with long beard, to right **GELA S, (cf.S.713, Jenkins 44, obv. 13', rev. 19 [notes only 5 examples known from these dies]). Very porous surface, otherwise very good and rare.
