ITALY, Lucania, Velia, (c.350-325 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.24 grams), obv. head of Athena three - quarters face to left, wearing winged and crested Phrygian helmet, rev. lion standing left eating, in exergue **[UELHTWN] around, (S.454 [£350], Williams 334 [These Dies], BMC 71). Die break on reverse as usual for this die, fine and rare.
