KINGS OF NORTHUMBRIA, Aethelred II (c.854-858), first reign, copper sceat, retrograde legend copy, obv. +EDLEDIIRC, central dot circle of dots around, rev. +VETRNIDIF around central cross with dots in angles, (cf.S.861, cf.N.188, Pirie, 'Coins of the Kingdom of Northumbria, Phase II Group Dii, Reflectives IIa, No.2019 [same dies, p.254]). Attractive bronze patination, very fine.
