INDIA, Bombay Mint, a rupee blank neatly engraved on one side 'FIRST BLANK - NEW MINT - Jany 21st - 1864 - J.A.BALLARD, M.M' and roughly scratched on the other side New Bombay (Pr 1043). Nearly extremely fine and unique.

Ex F.Pridmore (lot 193) Collection. Made as a souvenir to commemorate the commencement of production at the New Bombay Mint in 1865; Col J.A.Ballard, R.E., held the appointment of Mint Master, Bombay Mint, from 1862 to 1879 (see Pridmore Vol II pp.55, 62 and 65).
