JULIUS CAESAR AND OCTAVIAN, (27 B.C.), AE sestertius, Lugdunum mint, (16.81 grams), obv. heads of Julius Caesar and Octavian back to back, facing left and right, palm branch between heads, around DIVI IVLI on left, IMP [CAES]AR DIVI F around, rev. prow to right, with oars, globe and obelisk above, COPIA in exergue, (S.150 [GIC], Cr.-, Syd.-, C.8 [p.22], CNR Vol.I 22, p.166-7, only four other known examples). Nicely patinated, though a little cracked around the edge, otherwise nearly very fine and very rare.

Ex. Roy Sansom Collection, Sydney, sold c.1973 and B.R. Noble Collection, Glendining's London, 11 December, 1975 (lot 145), with old 1930's Spink ticket (10/-).
