SEXTUS POMPEY, (42-40 B.C.), silver denarius, Sicilian mint, (3.79 grams), obv. the Pharos of Messina surmounted by Neptune, galley before it, [MAG PIVS IMP] ITER around, rev. monster Scylla, around PRAEF CLAS ET ORAE MARIT S.C., (S.346 [£375], Cr.511/4c, Syd.1348, C. Sextus Pompey 2b [£200]). Edge nick, scratching in field on both sides, otherwise about very fine and rare.

Ex. Duke of Northumberland Collection, Sotheby's London, November 4, 1982, (lot 488). Smyth XII/38. Crawford has determined that less than 30 obverse dies were used for this type.
