C. VIBIUS C.F.C.N. Pansa Caetronianus, (48 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.93 grams), obv. Liberty laureate head to right, [LIBERTAS] off flan behind, rev. Roma seated to right, on heap of Gaulish shields, crowned by Victory who flies above, C.PANSA C.F.C.N. behind, (S.-, Cr.449/4, Syd.949, B.Vibia 20 [£80]). Attractive dark grey patina, weak in places, otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare.

Ex John Quincy Adams and Descendants, Massachusetts Historical Society, sold by Stacks March 5-6, 1971 (lot 599 part) and then to Dr. John A. Sawhill Collection, and James Madison University Foundation, sold Stacks, March 15-16, 1979 (lot 506 part). Only 33 obverse dies were used for this type as determined by Crawford.
