Q. CAEPIO BRUTUS (BETTER KNOWN AS M. Junius Brutus), (c.54 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.72 grams), obv. Liberty head to right, LIBERTAS behind, rev. the consul L. Junius Brutus walking left between two lictors preceded by an accensus, BRVTVS in the exergue, (S.306 [£160], Cr.433/1, Syd.906a, B.Junia 31a [£85]). One minor banker's mark in field on obverse, very fine/nearly very fine and rare.

Ex. Glendining's London, October 5, 1987 (lot 214). This piece was an issue by Brutus, one of the assassins of Julius Caesar, when as a young man he was a moneyer. This type illustrate his strong Republican views and a record of his ancestry.
