M. PLAAETORIUS M.F. Cestianus, (c.70 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.40 grams), obv. Cybele turreted bust to right, forepart of lion behind shoulder, globe under chin, CESTIANVS behind, rev. M. PLAETORIVS AED CVR EX S.C., curule chair facing, scorpion on left, (S.-, Cr.409/2, Syd.808, B.Plaetoria 3 [£40]). Slightly off centred on obverse, otherwise nearly very fine and scarce.

Ex. Buckland Dix & Webb London, October 6, 1993 (lot 104 part). 49 obverse dies utilised for this type according to calculations by Crawford.
