MAN. ACILIUS BALBUS, (c.125 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.81 grams), obv. Roma helmeted head right, * behind, ROMA below, BALBVS behind, all within laurel wreath, rev. Jupiter in quadriga to right, Macedonian shield below horses, MN ACILI in exergue, (S.-, Cr.271/1, Syd.498). Even grey patina, very fine and rare.

Ex. John Quincy Adams and family collection, and Mass. Historical Society Collection, Stacks March 5, 1971 (lot 430) and Dr. John Sawhill Collection and James Madison University Collection, Stack's New York, March 15, 1979 (lot 328 part). Only 20 obverse dies used on this coinage according to Crawford.
