MADRAS PRESIDENCY, Indian Style Coinage, Hindu System, Gold pagoda, c.1691-1740, first struck at Fort St. George (Madras) mint in 1691-2, (3.382 grams), obv. three standing figure deities, (representing Vishnu as Venkatesvara and his two wives, Sridevi and Bhudevi), rev. granulated, (Pr.3A, KM. 289). Extremely fine and rare.

The issues commenced 1691 with three full facing figures as on this and the next lot. The Pridmore specimen (lot 348) in very fine realised Å“60, the Pitchfork collection (Sale 48) lacked an example of this type.
