MACEDON, Roman Province, (c.A.D. 238-244), AE 26, (12.688 grams), obv. diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with flowing hair, to right **ALEXANDROU*, rev. Hercules with club attacking a steer to right, around **KOINO N MAKEDONWN BNE W*, (S.-, BMC -, Gaebler 549 [p.135]). Attractive brown patina, weak in places good fine/very fine and very rare, with priced ticket ($225US).

An important mythological and interesting coin, probably struck at Beroea. Gaebler knew of only two examples of this type from the many hundreds of Alexander obverse issues that he recorded.
