PAEONIA, kingdom of Patraos, (c.340-315 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (12.644 grams), obv. head of Apollo to r., with laureate, plain border, rev. horseman spearing fallen enemy, who holds spear and shield, around **P AT RAOU, (S.1520, Paeonian Hoard 482 (London) 201 (New York) these illustrated from the same dies). Obverse off centre, otherwise very fine/extremely fine and a very scarce type.

The Sotheby sale of the Paeonian hoard (London, 16th April, 1969, lot 482-489), had several examples of this type that came from the same dies. This is a type of much better style and condition than usual particularly on the reverse.
