THE WALLACE FAMILY GROUP OF MEDALS. Pair. The Royal Guelphic Order, K.H. (military) Knight's breast badge in gold and enamels, complete with gold buckle 57mm overall. Waterloo Medal, fitted with replacement silver straight bar suspension. Captain Robert Wallace, 1st Reg. Dragoon Guards. Son. China Medal 1842 with gold buckle and replacement gold straight bar & screwed ring suspender. A.F. Wallace, Lieut. 26th Regiment Foot. Brother-in-law. Waterloo Medal. Captain C. Ellis 1st Battalion 40th Regt. Foot. KH with some enamel chipping on obverse. Medals generally very fine.

All in old glazed frame with ivory plate enscribed 'Wallace Medals and Hanoverian Guelpic Order'. With miniature China Medal, 1842. Engraved 'W. F. Wallace Lt. 26 Regiment.' Extract from 'The Waterloo Roll Call: 'Captain Robert Wallace. Rank in the Regiment 20 October 1814. Resided in York, and was a well-known figure in York society. Born 1st Nov., 1789. 6th son of John Wallace, of Sedcop House, Kent, who was uncle of the Rt. Hon. Thos. Wallace (created Baron Wallace, 1828). When charging with his regt. at Waterloo, a French trumpeter was passed lying on the ground. Few of the regt. forbore to have a slash at their fallen enemy, as they galloped past; but Robert Wallace was merciful. 'I did not slash at him,' said the kind-hearted old colonel, in narrating the incident, 'but the trumpeter slashed at me!' Promoted maj. in same regt. 1828. (KH). Henrietta Ellis (sister to Thos. Ellis, M.P. for Dublin), and had issue. Died, as Colonel, 25th March, 1863. Captain Conyngham Ellis, rank in the Regiment 30 November 1809. Wounded at Waterloo. Made Brevet Major for Waterloo. Died 1817.
