FAUSTINA SENIOR, wife of Antoninus Pius, (died A.D.141), AE sestertius, Rome mint, (25.2 grams), obv. draped bust to right of Faustina with hair bound up behind head, around DIVA FAVSTINA, rev. AETER NITAS around, Aeternitas seated to left, holding phoenix on globe and a sceptre, S C in exergue, (S.1359, RIC 1103A, C.15). Attractive even brown patination, very fine and very scarce in this condition.

Ex Leopold G.P. Messenger Collection (lot 158 part), A.H. Baldwin & Sons (April 25, 1953) (Å“4.6.0) and Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection sold in Triton III (lot 1709 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, with his ticket.
