Estimate $8,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $14,400

PORT PHILLIP, Kangaroo Office pattern issue fourpence in copper of (1853) by W.J. Taylor, London, from different dies to other known examples, (cf.A.781, Heyde R7). Attractive light brown patina, minor discolouration on parts of reverse, otherwise good extremely fine/extremely fine and extremely rare.

Taylor used various dies for his token gold, silver and bronze coinage, all known fourpences (Spink Australia sale 18) and Andrews illustration of A.781 seem to come from a common pair of dies. This piece comes from another pair of dies apparently unpublished.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
