GARDENERS AND AMATEURS HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY, handcrafted prize medal in silver (45mm) with ornate surround and loop mount, inscribed on obv. 'Prize / for / Wine / 1848' and on rev. 'Presented / to / F.G.Tabart / Fonthill'. Extremely fine and extremely rare.

Lieutenant Francis G. Tabart arrived from Andover, England with his family in Hobart Town in 1830 on the ship ``Mary''. In 1831 he was granted 2,560 acres of land at Rushy Lagoon, Eastern Marshes and in 1834 named the property ``Fonthill''. In 1838 he was given an additional grant of 1,130 acres. He died aged 68 years in 1856.
