SYRIA, Kingdom of, Seleucos I, (312-280 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.15 grams), Seleucia on Tigris mint, issued c.296-281 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, **DI* monogram below, **HPR* monogram to left, to right **SELEUKOU*, in exergue **BASILEWS, (cf.S.6829, Newell ESM 4, ACNAC Houghton 941, SNG Cop. 1, BMC 6, SNG Spaer 109-113). Off centred on the obverse, otherwise good very fine.

Newell counted 17 obverse and 40 reverse dies for this type.
