SOLD $380

THRACE, Kingdom of Lysimachus, (323-281 B.C.), silver drachm, (4.14 grams), Ephesus mint, struck 294-287 B.C., obv. head of Alexander to right with diadem and horn of Ammon within dotted circle, rev. Athena enthroned to left supporting Nike, bee between E and **F* below, to right **BASILEW[S]* to left **[LU]S*IMA[XOY], (cf.S.6817, SNG Cop. 1147, Thompson 171). Light toning, small flan, very fine and rare.

Ex Spink & Son, London, with their ticket, December 1997. An interesting issue with the usual abreviation of the mint name and symbol that appears on the regular coinage of Ephesus of the 4th and 3rd century B.C. A similar but finer example was in our sale 59 (lot 1842) and realised $1078.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price.
