Description

Birmingham, J.G. Hancock's halfpenny, 1800, bust of Shakespeare left/legend as previous lot (D&H 142). Previous struke from reverse die shows underneath at 45 degree angle, turned in die for second or subsequent strikings to get medallic relief of the obverse. Considerable mint red on the obverse, reverse toned, nearly uncirculated and rare.

Purchased from Baldwin in 1979 (ticket says Spink 3/13).
